In 2008, I was a young producer with a piano I bought off Craigslist with all the money I had. Many said I had no business in the rooms I talked my way into. But I have always been determined.

Then one afternoon, I was standing next to Dolly Parton. Laughing. Because that is what she did. She made a kid with a secondhand piano feel like he belonged.

Off camera, she leaned in and said, "You are going places."

I'm sure she said things like that to a thousand dreamers. That was the magic. Every one of us believed her. And oh, the places we went.

That moment taught me more than the 1,500 events since. Talent fills a room. Kindness makes one.

Rest well, Dolly. Thank you for the songs, the laughter, and the grace. The world sounds better because you were in it. 🦋
